Vice President for Business Development & Partnerships

Times Square Alliance, the non-profit entity responsible for sustaining the economic vitality of one of the world’s best-known commercial districts, seeks a Vice President for Business Development & Partnerships to increase earned income for the Alliance, develop new revenue-producing partnerships, and drive economic growth by more effectively marketing the individual and collective assets of the Times Square District.


Ideal candidates will have a strong business background, an entrepreneurial spirit, and demonstrated experience developing, securing, and managing revenue-producing partnerships. They will also have an understanding of the business forces and trends which affect Times Square, a sophistication around marketing and business development, and a sensitivity to the Alliance’s civic mission.

The Alliance’s current partnerships and programs with revenue components include oversight of food, retail, and tourism kiosks in the Times Square plazas; several design initiatives linked to the NYCxDesign Festival; advertising on Alliance-controlled physical and digital assets; Times Square-related merchandise and tours; event revenue; and sponsorships and grants related to signature events and programs (New Year’s Eve, Summer Solstice, Valentine’s Heart, Taste of Times Square, Times Square Arts, Broadway Buskers, etc.).

A member of Times Square Alliance’s senior staff, the Vice President for Business Development & Partnerships reports to the Senior Vice President and works closely with the President and in concert with other members of the senior staff, especially those engaged in revenue-related activities.

The Vice President will also work with the Director of Communications and the Vice President of Policy, Planning, and Research on the long-term economic development, and business recruitment and retention strategies for the Times Square District.

Specific Responsibilities Include

  • Serving as a strategic partner to the President and senior staff in exploring new earned and partnership revenue opportunities for Times Square Alliance
  • Developing, negotiating, and managing strategic partnerships and contractual relationships that involve significant (or potentially significant) revenues for the Alliance
  • Supporting the Alliance’s existing initiatives, partnerships, and philanthropic relationships, while working with colleagues to foster new or deeper business, partnership, and philanthropic opportunities
  • Helping to develop and execute a strategy for the economic development of the Times Square District with the goal of increasing the value of Times Square’s current businesses and tenants, retaining existing commercial tenants, and attracting new ones
  • Identifying and communicating the unique business development opportunities presented by Times Square to its current and future businesses and tenants
  • Shaping effective marketing strategies for promoting the Times Square District and its businesses
  • Creating compelling proposals, presentations, and other materials in support of business opportunities and partnerships


Qualifications

  • Strong business acumen, demonstrated experience in B2B sales, negotiation, and developing and managing financially successful short- and long-term business partnerships
  • Entrepreneurial, strategic, and creative approach to business development – the ability to spot trends in the marketplace and create successful opportunities in response
  • Understanding of the economic forces and trends affecting the District’s primary economic drivers: the retail and commercial real estate sectors, travel and tourism, theater, media and entertainment
  • Experience developing promotional partnerships and marketing campaigns
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate a compelling case for Times Square’s unique business potential 
  • Proficiency with data analysis, forecasting, and budgeting
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field, MBA preferred
