Events & Programming Assistant

We are currently seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Events & Programming Assistant to help manage and oversee programming on the Broadway Pedestrian Plazas in Times Square (, as well as assist with the Alliance’s signature events (such as New Year’s Eve and LOVE in Times Square) and Times Square Arts projects.  This new role is best suited for someone with festival, events, production, theatre, and/or stage management experience, and who is motivated by handling multiple events simultaneously.  This is an opportunity to work on recurring small-scale events (including music, performance, arts & crafts, and street theater).  This position will help oversee the nuts and bolts of plaza activities in the world’s most iconic neighborhood on a day-to-day basis from season planning to daily set-up through strike. The Events & Programming Assistant will be exposed to working outdoors for prolonged periods of time including in inclement weather conditions.

The Events & Programming Assistant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee Times Square Alliance Plaza Programming initiatives to ensure consistent and high-quality presentation and execution
  • In coordination with Programming Manager, serve as the day-to-day point person on Plaza Programming events, performances, and new initiatives, acting as liaison to performers and partners
  • Set up, transport, break down equipment on a daily basis
  • Interact and engage in a Front-of-House capacity with audiences and the general public, as the face and representative of the Alliance
  • Handle day-to-day updates of Plaza Programming event pages on the website and outdoor signage, and edit schedules for internal and external distribution
  • Contribute to the compilation of pre- and post-event surveys and compile daily and/or weekly debrief reports
  • Support the Programming & Events Managers in the planning and execution of all events; this includes the ordering of materials, inventory and organization of supplies, and day-of-event execution
  • Participate in brainstorming, researching, and executing marketing, advertising, and creative content and strategies
  • General administrative work including mailings, data entry, invoice & payroll processing, and archiving
  • Assist in the production of program-related collateral materials such as signage utilizing Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop as needed
  • Serve as Assistant Production Manager for New Year’s Eve
  • Assist Communications Department with digital storytelling projects such as research, interviews, and basic production assistance during the winter months
  • Assist with other public space and street furniture projects during the winter months

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work nights and weekends to accommodate an active event schedule
  • Event, theatre, or production-related experience is a MUST
  • Ideal candidates will be well-versed in Placemaking and/or the Broadway theatre industry
  • Videography, photography, sound engineering skills, and stage management experience a PLUS
  • Interest in and knowledge of the arts, culture, and music a PLUS
