Marketing Director

The Times Square Alliance seeks an experienced marketing professional to create strategies and content to market and promote Alliance events and programming, Times Square stakeholders, and Times Square itself.   

The Times Square Alliance works to promote and improve Times Square, cultivating the creativity, energy and edge that have made the area an icon of entertainment, culture and urban life for over a century.  Our goal is to celebrate and serve this multi-use district that is home to some of the world’s most famous theaters, companies, events and public spaces.  More about its vision can be found here.

The Times Square Alliance’s Communications team manages the message everything to do with Times Square, for large scale civic events including New Year’s Eve and Solstice in Times Square, and major public art projects produced by Times Square Arts.  The Communications team manages the official website for Times Square and all official social media handles that promote the district, its businesses, and all major happenings. 

The Marketing Director will work closely with the Communications team along with other Alliance teams to manage and execute marketing strategies for the neighborhood and promote what makes it distinctive and encourages visits and engagement.  The Marketing Director will manage various staff within the Communications department along with other Alliance staff to produce marketing campaigns to sell tickets, increase engagement, gain new audiences for all our major marquee events as well as our small-scale public programming.  They will also work with the larger Alliance staff to coordinate and execute campaigns that market the district, its stakeholders, and the public realm itself to New Yorkers, regular Broadway audiences, and visitors to the area.  They will plan and execute these campaigns, handle paid advertising and social media advertising and analyze these campaigns to inform future work.  They will also work closely with agencies, consultants, sponsors, and partners to achieve success.  

The Marketing Director reports to the Vice President of Communications and works with a small Communications team to execute these initiatives.  The Alliance is a highly collaborative office and this team works closely with Partnerships and Sponsorships, Programming, Public Art, Plaza Management, among others. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating and executing marketing strategies to promote and celebrate what is distinctive about Times Square 
  • Researching and pitching new digital marketing ideas  
  • Researching and pitching new social media marketing ideas  
  • Researching and pitching new physical advertising opportunities
  • Researching and pitching new media partnership opportunities  
  • Placing marketing campaigns on digital and physical platforms 
  • Analyzing data and reporting out on campaigns after it has been executed

 

Qualifications/Skills: 

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills.

  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience (more than 5 years) and interest in marketing
  • Keen interest in and knowledge of social media platforms and other communications tools
  • Passion for creative marketing strategies that live outside the box
  • Detail orientation and deadline sensitivity
  • Strong creativity and critical thinking skills
  • Personal enthusiasm and individual initiative
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Basic design skills and a good eye for visual presentation
  • Prior business improvement district or place-based organization experience is a plus
